Landon Collins: McAdoo Has All The Qualities A Head Coach Needs To Have

Last year, the New York Giants gave up 52 points to the Saints in New Orleans. This year, they allowed just 13 in a three-point win.

That’s a 39-point difference, which Landon Collins was able to explain succinctly.

“Disguise our defense as much as possible and get Drew Brees off his spot and not just have him sitting back there picking our defense apart,” the Giants safety said on CBS Sports Radio’s The Doug Gottlieb Show. “And then you have two great edge rushers and two guys upfront (to pressure him).”

Containing Brees is easier said than done, but the Giants did exactly that. Brees finished with 263 yards and a touchdown, which isn’t awful – until you consider that he had 505 yards and seven touchdowns in the Saints’ 52-49 win over the Giants last season.

Ben McAdoo, 39, is more of an offensive guy than a defensive guy, but you wouldn’t know it after Sunday. More important, the Giants are 2-0 for the first time since 2009.

“Personality-wise, he’s a great coach,” Collins said of McAdoo. “He’s cool, laid-back, assertive – he has all the qualities a head coach needs to have. He’s a funny guy, he gets on you when he needs to get on you, praises you when he needs to praise you – he’s an all-around coach. He’s always around and easy to talk to.”

Collins, 22, starred at Alabama and was a second-round pick in 2015. He was asked about the Tide’s victory over Ole Miss this past Saturday. Alabama trailed 24-3 late in the first half but scored 45 of the next 51 points to win 48-43.

Collins said he wasn’t worried – not even when the Tide trailed by 21.

“We live off of that second half and that fourth quarter,” he said. “We’re always going to finish. At the end of the day, all that matters is what the scoreboard says when the clock strikes zero.”
