Mike Garafolo: Manziel May Never Play In NFL Again

Johnny Manziel recently told TMZ – drunkenly, it seemed – that he was living with fellow former Texas A&M standout Von Miller. As it turns out, he isn’t.

In the same interview, Manziel – again, seemingly inebriated – claimed he was “getting (his) life together,” called John Elway “a great dude,” and said any team that picks him up “is a blessing.” Manziel also said “I love ball,” used the word “bro” enough times to fill a frat house, and explained the difference between “partying” and “being out of control.”

It was cringe-worthy.

“He didn’t sound his best, I’ll put it to you that way,” Fox Sports columnist and NFL insider Mike Garafolo said on CBS Sports Radio’s The Doug Gottlieb Show. “‘There’s a difference between partying and being out of control’ or whatever he said – when your own dad says that he’s worried about you and fears that you might die if you don’t get that support, and when your agent, who promised to be beside you the whole time, publicly terminates your relationship, I think you’re out of control. He’s got multiple issues going on with the NFL right now. If he does not get suspended for anything going forward in the (coming) weeks, I’ll be floored. Now on top of that, I’ve got general managers, personnel guys around the league that I’ve talked to – people who know him – all saying he might be done. May never play in the NFL again.”

Manziel, of course, was a complete failure for the Cleveland Browns – in every sense of the word. Sadly, Josh Gordon may suffer the same fate. Gordon, who was suspended for the entire 2015 season for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, has failed a drug test, again. He has played in just five games since leading the league in receiving in 2013. Heck, he even missed two games that season for failing a drug test.

Now there are reports that Manziel, 23, and Gordon, 24, are roommates. At the very least, they share an agent in Drew Rosenhaus.

Isn’t it time for the 49-year-old Rosenhaus to, in the words, of Gottlieb, “be the adult in the room” and separate these guys?

“It is,” Garafolo said. “I just think the Gordon thing, perception-wise, it doesn’t look good. Even if you believe Johnny (is okay) and all these guys got it wrong when they talk about him, even if you believe that, just for appearances sake, I would think you’d want to split these two up (and) not have them together. Gordon is at the mercy of the NFL right now, and if you have him with Manziel, who is being watched on multiple fronts by the NFL, that’s an image problem. That’s a problem you don’t want to have right now for a guy who is at the mercy of the NFL. He really is.”
