Jason Collins announced publicly on Monday that he’s gay and no one understood what Jason was going through privately better than his twin brother and former NBA player Jarron, who has known for some time about his brother. Jarron talked with Doug Gottlieb on Tuesday about his brother’s secret and how positive the reception has been to the news.
“The amount of support my brother has received, I’m just very, very happy for him,” Collins said. “Of course being the twin brother, as friends put it, ‘Someone who looks an awfully lot like you just announced to the world that he’s gay.'”
Gottlieb asked Jarron to retell the story about how Jason approached him and broke the news of his sexual orientation.
“It was in my house and it was in the morning,” Collins said. “I had just gone done working out and we were in the living room. He kind of just sat me down and I could tell by the tone that he was very serious.”
At first Jarron was surprised by Jason’s admission, but he grew accustomed to it over time.
“He said, ‘Jarron, I’m gay,'” Collins said. “I heard it, but I didn’t really process it. It was one of those things that I had to digest what he was saying.”
